House Meme

When you walk in your front door, which room do you enter? We have a little entryway but it mostly opens into the living room

Do you have a dishwasher? yes thank goodness!

Is your living room carpeted or does it have hardwood floors? carpet but the next house will probably be tile as we want a southwestern adobe type of house

Do you keep your kitchen knives on the counter or in a drawer? in a drawer...a couple of drawers actually

Do you rent or own? own -- well Master own's :)

How many bedrooms is it? it has 3 bedrooms but 2 of them are not used as bedrooms - one is Master's office and another is my studio area.

Gas stove or electric? gas and I know I am in the minority when I say I miss electric

Do you have a yard? yes but we live in desert climate so we are landscaped with rocks so it doesn't look like a yard that I grew up with. The yard is an area I would like to improve as I think it would look better with some bushes and trees. Right now it is pretty much just rocks. I would love to have flower garden but my allergies just can't keep up with a garden and it is not fair to get it and then Master have to do the work on it. So no flowers :(

What size TV is in the living room? hmm not sure it is fairly large to me but I know Master would like a flat screen -- and those are quite a bit bigger and wouldn't really fit in our entertainment unit.

Are your plates in the same cupboard as your cups? Same cupboard, different shelf. Glasses are in a different cupboard though.

Is there a coffee maker sitting on your kitchen counter? yes right next to a toaster. Other appliances on counter is the kitchen aid mixer and a microwave. A lot of time our indoor grill or crockpot is on the counter too as I those so much - grill in summer - crockpot in winter.

What room is your computer in? The computer I use is in the studio. We have 3 active computers going all the time then a few external hard drives and 2 lap tops.

Are there pictures hanging in your living room? yes a big print, then 2 pieces of art (one by me) and then several of Master's gorgeous photos too. Plus we have family photos on the entertainment unit.

Are there any themes found in your home? kind of a mix -- of modern, old world and southwestern -- yep a little eclectic. No set design or theme really. Just warm and cozy I think.

What kind of laundry detergent do you use? Purex allergy free -- it is the only one I have found that really doesn't break me out.

Do you use dryer sheets? sometimes with blankets...so that they don't cause static cling with the kitty cats.

Do you have any curtains in your home? yes but also blinds. All the rooms have blinds and curtains. Except the bathroom. They have frosted glass and then lace curtains.

What color is your fridge? white, but quite a few magnets adorn it. As Master pointed out that we never use the magnets really. I said no they are just there to be pretty or amuse me! :)

Is your house clean? at the moment I would not say it is clean. But it isn't really dirty either. It is okay.

What room is the most neglected? neglected in terms of cleaning my studio probably....as it never looks clean. It just has so much stuff in it - hard to get it to a totally clean and totally organized place.

Are the dishes in your sink/dishwasher clean or dirty? dirty -- I need to go load dishwasher in a moment and get Master's lunch while I am in the kitchen.

How long have you lived in your home? Master has lived here...well...it will be 11 years this year. I have lived here officially 5 years in May.

Where did you live before? umm I lived in Cleveland.

Do you have one of those fluffy toilet lid covers on your toilet? no

Do you have a scale anywhere in your house? yes one in each bathroom.

How many mirrors are in your house? one in each bathroom and really I think that is it...hmm I never realized that we don't have mirrors. My Mom has mirrors all over her house....I wonder why I never use mirrors to decorate.

Look up. What do you see? 2 prints on the wall -- One by Da Vinci another by Rossetti, a little shelf with a candle and a picture of my dog under one print and a little shelf with a teddy bear and a princess tin under the other, and then an altered altiod tin that has clay sculpted on it, a Buddha mask and a print about enlightenment under it.

Do you have a garage? no something again we hope to have in the next house.

Home Corners

A friend of mine started a tradition on Tuesdays called Home Corners. I have been lapse on posting them. But I do so enjoy them so with the house being all decorated for Christmas I definitely wanted to do at least one!

Okay please ignore the crooked pictures. When I was hanging the garland I bumped them and didn't straighten them before taking the picture. The Santa in a Sleigh is a Jim Shore. Master and I both saw him at the same time. It was an after Christmas sale where we had already been to the cash register 2 times before seeing it. Soooo the clerk asked us if wanted to just stick around all day. :)

There are quite a few glass cupboards in Master's house and so I put garland inside on the shelves of each so you can see it. I have some with snowmen, nutcrackers, angels and santa's.

Bears under the Christmas tree. We have kitty cats that sit under the tree too and you will see their faces peeking out from between bears. It is so cute of course hard to catch a picture of it though.

Home Corners

3 photos of Halloween decorations around the house...

The table with a pumpkin basket and pumpkin table runner.

These little pumpkin bells are hung on silk cords and then tied around handles.

I have had several of these little tissue pumpkins for YEARS and YEARS! The little black cat was attached to some Halloween cookies a friend gave me many years ago.

Home Corners

I think it was my last birthday when I got this box from my Mom...it had all sorts of things in it but my favorite was the items in the photos. They are my Great Grandmothers...she made them. My Dad's Grandmother split up all of the items and gave each of us girls (she has 8 grand children that are girls).

I don't use the items although I would like to. I don't use them because I don't want to ruin them.

Home Corners

My Mom is a total social butterfly. She has a huge group of friends. So when I was getting married, I had many showers for my wedding. My 2 favorite showers were the time of the day shower. Everyone was assigned a time of the day and had to bring something that went with that time of the day. And then the other shower I enjoyed was a kitchen shower - which everyone had to bring a recipe and either a food item or utensil that would help in making that recipe. And then they also contributed to a group gift which was all things kitchen. And then included a recipe box...not the one in the picture. The reason I am telling this story is the recipe on top of my current recipe box is one from that shower. And I still have most of those recipes that were given at that shower even though some of them oh my....ewwww!

The recipe basket my Mom gave me and I know the little tag is crooked but no matter how often I get it even it slips so I just leave it now. The recipe basket is a Longaberger basket. It matches my Mom kitchen really well but I was commenting how much I liked it on visit and a few months later she sent it to me with some recipes in it.

Home Corners

This might be an odd little home corners but it is fitting my mood today. Whenever I travel or we have company for several days, I crash after. It is like I have been overstimulated for several days, had to be careful of what I said and did the whole time as to not give away who Master and I are to each other - so I crash after because although I enjoy being around family and friends, it is stressful too. So I was here in my studio typing up the entry I did last night and out of the corner of my eye I spotted my toy chest. It is a pink tin and it has paper dolls, my Princess book that Mandy and Luis gave me and then my Groovy Girls and their extra clothes and sleeping bags. Because I am crashing....I think of comfort things. And being little girl and just playing with my dolls and forgetting about all the stuff that is going on in the real world sounds just splendid.

So today's home corner is a tribute to my little girl side that likes to play with dolls, color, and be read to....

click on the pictures to get a bigger view of them...

(if these pictures aren't showing up let me know....I am linking them from livejournal and not sure I have done that before)

Home Corners

This is a picture I have hanging in my studio. It might not look like much and very dated. And it is very dated -- my Grandparents gave that to me in August of 1969 so I was almost 2 years old. They wrote on the back to and from and then the date. My Mom sent me a box of stuff shortly after I moved here and this was one of the things in the package. So I hung it up in my studio. It hangs right next to my work table.

My Dad's parents were my favorite. Yes I had favorites. I loved both sets of Grandparents but my Dad's Grandparents I feel I guess I related to more. My Grandpa and I use to play cards. He taught me gin rummy probably at 6 years old. We played all the time. He was the person that taught me how to play solitaire too with real cards not on a computer. :)

My Grandma used to spend hours playing paper dolls with me. She would buy me a new set every time I stayed with them and then cut them all out for me. We talked about that when I saw her last and she said she used to get hand cramps from cutting all the paper dolls out.

Another memory with these Grandparents is that they had a house that had a garden in the back. It looked like a normal backyard with trees and grass but then at the back of it there was this little area that was raised. It has a path going through it and then tons of flowers. All different kinds. It was so pretty. The edge of it that raised up had this wide area that started the path and us kids (my sister and all my cousins) would use that as a stage and put on shows for Grandma and Grandpa. We would do skits and sing and dance. My Grandma was always teaching us new songs. For their 40th wedding anniversary - I was in high school by then but all of us grandkids got up in the hall and sang all those songs we used to sing when we put shows on for them.

So my home corners today is a trip down memory lane. I won't have another home corners until we get back from our trip - so that won't be until mid-july.

Home Corners

So today I posting a picture of this little tea cup & saucer. This was given to me by the friend that really got me hooked on tea. She had a tea party with little cucumber finger sandwiches, mini-quiches, mini-cream puffs, scones and then tea. The table, the food, the tea and more importantly the conversation were so nice. It was just such a lovely time. I miss being able to spend time with her.

Home Corners

Master has an armoire in the bedroom. On top of it we actually store our suitcases but there is a little ledge in front of one of the suitcases and so I have some teddy bears and the pillow. Henry is the far right bear. He is a build-a-bear that girlie got me when we went to the Servant's Retreat a few years ago. Slumped behind the pillow is my well loved Ellington. I was given him by someone that I was very close to when in Ohio. I sleep with a teddy bear every night usually the same one but every so many years it is time to get a new one as I just smoosh and wear them out. And Ellington was one of those bears. Daddy bought me a new bear that I still sleep with but he is looking a little worn too - named Fitz. Next to the the slumped Ellington is Cranbeary of course. A cranbeary corduroy bear that Bill and Lisa - friends from Ohio - gave me when I was living with them. And the last little black bear with floral fabric for his paws - is named Pretty. I bought him years and years ago. The pillow a friend from Ohio gave me at a going away party before I moved to be with Master. You can also see peaking out under the pillow and in front of Henry - the music baton and if you look real closely there is a little leather loop which is the handle on the evil stick.

Home Corners

controlledgirl over on Livejournal started what is called Home Corners! It was so nice seeing her pictures that several of us have joined in the fun. It is just taking pictures and sharing bits of home with each other. I made some icons for it anyone wants to use them - it is in an unlocked post on lj.

Master bought me this our first Christmas together. He had a heck of time when he went to buy it. I had looked at when we were out and about but I never really even remember saying anything to him about how much I liked it. He went back to get it and each one had drawers stuck. So they clerks really wanted to sell it to him and so broke drawers to get one that had none stuck and then proceeded to pull drawers out of others trying to find one that drawers would fit in.

I really like the designs on each drawer. I like that holds just little things in the dining room - napkin rings, I also keep some quick sewing supplies if I need to sew button on (because I will do that at the dining room table), wine charms, and little odds and ends like that.
